Prof. Rob McWilliams was born in Melbourne, Australia and holds a Ph.D. in Music from the University of Minnesota, a Master’s in Instrumental Conducting from Florida State University, and a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Melbourne. A USA resident from 1991 to 2014, he was Professor of Music and Director of Bands & Instrumental Music Education at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where he conducted symphonic and jazz ensembles and taught courses in conducting, instrumental music education, and jazz. From 2011 he also served as Head of Department. Prof. McWilliams has conducted and presented at major music conferences in Japan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Europe, China, the USA, and all states of Australia. Scholarly publications include the Journal of Band Research, and Teaching Music Through Performance. He is also a published composer/arranger with Alfred’s Music. In early 2015 he relocated to Brisbane and is freelancing as a musician, educator, conductor, composer/arranger and working for Yamaha as their Education Outreach Clinician
