Dr Damian Hoey is Regional Music Coordinator with the Department of Education. His current role includes professional supervision of instrumental music teachers and management of the Department of Education’s Instrumental Music Program across Brisbane and Ipswich. As one of the writers of the recently released Instrumental Music Curriculum he is heavily invested in supporting its implementation.


Since graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music as viola player, he has taught in for many years in primary, secondary and tertiary settings, and as a studio teacher. Damian’s research interests focus on a musician’s transition from performing to teaching, and supporting future instrumental music teachers. He currently teaches instrumental pedagogy and strings at the University of Queensland.
