Catharine attended the Conservatorium High School, has a Bachelor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium and a Master of Music (Performance) from the Royal Academy of Music, London. She spent many years as a freelance French Horn player and teacher, working in numerous schools around Sydney, as well as at the NSW Department of Education’s Art Unit. Catharine was then drawn towards Intercultural education, joining AFS Intercultural Programs, a global not-for-profit organisation, in 2007 and becoming CEO of AFS Australia in 2011. Combining her experience in music education and the not-for-profit sector, Catharine joined APRA AMCOS as Educational Licensing Consultant in July 2016. One of the greatest pleasures of her role is that it sees her meeting face to face with teachers around the country to understand the musical education landscape in their schools and in their states, as well as helping them to navigate the world of music copyright.
